Lenticular Prints & Transparencies

Escher-like image "Day & Night" 86.8Kb stereo GIF
The stereo pair of "Day and Night" by Robert Stein III was done with 5D thinking to force 3D Studio to create a view like an Escher 2D image. "Day & Night" first appeared in 3DA#15, followed by a how-to explanation in the next issue (now out of print). In 3DA#20 it accompanies an article suggesting that lenticulars could be a show-stopping addition to a freelancer's portfolio or gallery collection. The pair is an outtake from nine images used by Stein to create a lenticular at 3D Media (once located at 800 - 2nd St., New York, NY 10017; 212/978-9172, 687-5988 fax). This company has experience working with 3D freelancers and competitive prices (in 1995, $125 for an 8x10" lenticular, or $75 each for two copies).

A Scattering of Hair

3D Studio How-To by Robert Undi / C3D

In his article, Robert Undi explains the techniques he has developed to apply individual hair as IPAS Scatter objects to 3D characters. In a sidebar, we ask additional questions about shaping hair-do's, and just what kind of power system Undi uses to not only render hair-do's, but also scenes with groups of coifed characters.
