DV Dirt Cheap: Additional Info
3D Artist issue #31, page 8.
As author Tim Wilson explains in his magazine article, you can do low-cost, high-quality digital video using a DVD controller like the Quadrant Cinemaster ($95 street) for MPEG2 playback. His approach requires a little patience and ingenuity, but you don't need a DVD drive.
___
Tim has placed an impressive amount of additional information, to help people get started, on his Web site at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/crestline/mpeg2.htm,
including mentions of MPEG2 boards that have come to his attention since writing the article. He doesn't plan to maintain this info forever, but at the moment it is a terrific starting point.
___
Because of the nature of how the Cinemaster board is presently sold, usually bundled with a DVD drives rather than sold separately, it may be a little difficult to locate it. Quadrant International has a list of its U.S. and international dealers and distributors at http://www.qi.com/about/distresell.html.
___
Tim Wilson bought his Cinemaster from Pacific Digital Corp. in Irvine, Calif. (714/252-1111), but he and we can't vouch for that company, so you're on your own in dealing with them (and any other company mentioned in these pages).
___
Here's the starting point for Cinemaster technical data,
