Errata & additional info:
Page 5: "Quick 3D Terrains for Illustrators" is on page 16, not 15.
Page 15:
___ 1) In "DEM o'Graphics Potpourri 1," it is implied by the article, but not stated clearly in the caption to the aerial landscape images, that these were rendered in World Construction Set.
___ 2) The author writes: In Note 2 to the article, it was stated that WCS didn't like DEMCon's 90m and DTED 1km USGS ASCII conversions. That statement is true for WCS v4.55. However, the experimental WCS v4.61 will load the DEMCon 90m and the DTED ASCII conversions. As v4.55 recognizes the v4.61 .elev files, DEMs loaded and saved in v4.61 can be loaded in v4.55 for use.
Page 16: The author writes: The assertion in "Quick 3D Terrains for Illustrators" that "you can't correctly convert the file to USGS ASCII with DEMConverter" is incorrect. You can. The problem is not one of straddling the Prime Meridian, but one of missing data from the DEM. Unlike DTEDs, GTOPO30 files do not contain ocean area sea-level data. To convert GTOPO30 data containing ocean areas, open Data Manipulation/Edit/Missing Data to Sea Level and select the file. Caution: If you wish to keep your original data intact, make a copy with a new name and use that, since this option rewrites the opened file. Now you can convert the MD .dem to USGS ASCII with DEMConverter.
Page 30: The messiah add-on for LightWave 5.6, described as coming from Station X Studios, has moved to a new software company founded by the people named in the article introduction. Word has it that the shipping version will ship in April, and it will be coming for Intel, Alpha, and Mac. Visit www.projectmessiah.com for more info.
Page 34: The Phaselink plug-in from the Polk Collection for LW3D 5.x, mentioned on page 18, is missing from the Toolbox listings. Contact LightWave dealers for more info about this product.
Page 35: The phone number for C3 Interactive is wrong in the ad for its military models library. It should have been 877/554-5171 (toll-free in U.S./Canada).
