Notes to Contributors
Focus Topics
Forensic animation and architectural rendering are getting renewed attention in our pages. We're also looking for illustrators who do archeology re-creation work, artists who do fact-based astronomy or professional-level fantasy space illustrations.
Note: Every issue carries a variety of unrelated how-to articles, so don't focus too much on "issue focus" when considering when to submit an article submission! In fact, your proposal could help trigger a focus topic not yet scheduled.
This year's cover images have already been assigned, but we are always looking for cover image proposals to join the lineup and to be ready to fill-in when an opening occurs. The cover is assigned as new art to be created specifically for 3D Artist under close art direction from staff, so it has been years since we accepted art finished before we received the proposal.
Note: Generally speaking, writing a how-to article is a faster way to bring attention to your work through 3D Artist magazine than trying to get a cover assignment. We almost always assign covers to artists with whom we have an established working relationship as contributing writers.
Important: Although a cover sometimes may be assigned to match an issue focus, we are mainly looking for new and fresh thinking. We are challenging artists to go beyond gee-whiz photorealistic images to create art especially for the 3D Artist cover that says something about both the art and the process of creating 3D graphics.
After you read our Contributor Guidelines for detailed answers to many questions, send your article proposal to <editors@3dartist.com> (do NOT attach images or other files).
