• 18 Feb. 2005 – "Researcher Creates Technology To Help Extract Diet Information From Fossil Teeth" – Univ. of Arkansas news release: "While theories about what human ancestors ate abound, until now few methods existed for testing these models. A University of Arkansas professor and his colleagues have created methods for examining modern-day teeth and fossil teeth for indications of diet by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and laser technology."

• 17 Feb. 2005 – "Xj3D M10 adds support for CAD, DIS, GeoSpatial and H-Anim components, doubles rendering speed, supports CAD interchange profile and offers cross-platform installers" – "Xj3D is an open source toolkit for X3D, completely written in Java. The new Xj3D M10 features installers for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X."

• 7 Feb. 2005 – "MERIS captures all of Europe from orbit" – ESA news release: "The crowning mosaic in the [set of true-colour Envisat satellite mosaics] represents approximately 1.6 million square kilometres of European territory at 300-metre resolution."
• 3 Feb. 2005 – "ESRI Enhances Support for OGC WMS" – "ESRI ... is pleased to announce the availability of the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC), Web Mapping Service (WMS) client and server support with the Service Pack 2 release of ArcGIS 9. In addition, an enhanced WMS connector is now included with ArcIMS. The OGC WMS is an Open GIS standard specification for interactive mapping based on requesting map images from a server over the Internet."
• 2 Feb. 2005 – "Saint Louis University Lab Maps Illinois School as Part of Emergency-Preparedness Plan" – "For more than two years, Saint Louis University’s Norman J. Stupp Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Lab has been creating digital blueprints for police and school officials showing every room inside many St. Louis-area school buildings. Now, the GIS mapping project is expanding into Illinois."
• 2 Feb. 2005 – "ESRI Selected for Next Generation GIS Portal" – "ESRI announced today that it was selected by the Department of the Interior to develop the full implementation of the Geospatial One-Stop Operational Portal (GOS 2)."
• 1 Feb. 2005 – "New geologic map of North America illustrates discoveries and advances in geoscience" – Geological Society of America news release at EurekAlert: "The last definitive geologic map of North America was published before the theory of plate tectonics was widely accepted, back in the days when impact craters were known simply as 'anomalies' and knowledge of ocean floor geology was in its infancy... [The new] map is not a static end-product. Because it was produced with digital technology, a digital database is planned by David Soller of the U.S. Geological Survey."
• 31 Jan. 2005 – "WERF Seeks Proposals for Upcoming Security Project" – news release: "The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) will release research funding totaling $275,000 for the development of a software model that aids wastewater treatment facilities in addressing hazardous events, either natural or man-made...
