What Is an Official Subscription to
3D Artist Magazine?
To receive 3D Artist SUBSCRIBER BENEFITS from 3D Artist magazine and its publisher, Columbine, Inc., the subscriber must . . .
- have purchased the subscription directly from 3D Artist in Santa Fe, N.M., USA (you can use the subscription form on this Web site), or through any subscription agency that works with 3D Artist,
- be current and in good standing (subscription not expired or cancelled), and
- provide identifying information when applying for subscriber benefits: your name and either your subscriber number or your magazine mailing address.
Note that, unlike most multimedia magazines, 3D Artist does not have any category of free subscription. We depend on subscribers for financial support more than most multimedia magazines, and that support allows us to be more independent and to carry a lighter advertising load (a lower ratio of advertising-to-editorial pages).
Reading Your Magazine Mailing Label
The top line of the mailing label on regular 3D Artist magazine mailings will look like this for subscribers: 33A3212345 LAST=43. Here's what the important parts mean.
33A32 12345 LAST=43
^^^^^ = your subscriber number
33 A3212345 LAST=43
^^ = the issue in the envelope
33A3212345 LAST=43
^^ = the last issue in your subscription
Unofficial Subscriptions & Single Issue Sales
In some places--especially outside the U.S., bookstores and others may sell what they call a subscription to 3D Artist. We do not (and probably couldn't) forbid this practice, but we also do NOT recognize it for the purposes of providing benefits to OFFICIAL Subscribers. Here's a full explanation of why:
- We have NO way of knowing whether someone really is a so-called "subscriber" through some other business.
- We don't have your name or identifying contact info provided by that business.
- We don't know when your "subscription" begins or ends, so we also can't tell if it is current.
- We don't know if your "subscription" is in good standing.
- These unofficial "subscribers" haven't been assigned an active 3DA subscriber number in our database, to which we KEY benefits such as URL listings on the 3D Artists Directory page, free classified ads, and occasional (rare) news E-mailings.
Buying single copies anywhere does not entitle anyone to any kind of subscriber benefits. And businesses that sell unofficial "subscriptions" cannot obligate 3D Artist and Columbine, Inc. to provide Official Subscriber benefits to their customers.
- A small portion of the money paid to buy such "subscriptions" and individual copies does, after many months, reach 3D Artist. The hard fact of magazine publishing is that this portion doesn't cover the cost of producing the copies you purchase, thus your copies are subsidized by 3D Artist's advertisers (so please support them).
- Advertising and market share are part of why we (and any magazine) put so much effort and expense into single issue sales. Also, newsstands and bookstores are the best way we have of finding people like you to become new Offical Subscribers.
We DO recognize and appreciate our readers who purchase single issues and non-official "subscriptions" from newsstands and bookstores. This part of our readership is more than twice the size of our Official Subscribership, but the only real benefit we can provide to these readers is the hard work that goes into 3D Artist itself.
___
We invite you, when you can, to subscribe to 3D Artist directly. We will return that support in the form of tangible benefits. Your direct support is VITAL to 3D Artist and its growth.
